Eidsvollsbygningen - or Eidsvoll Manor House - is one of Norway's foremost national symbols as the place where the Norwegian Constitution was written and adopted in 1814.

The museum café is adjacent to the Democracy Centre and has a fantastic view of the Eidsvoll manor House and the old industrial area along the Andelva. We also have a large terrace where you can enjoy good summer days.

The museum shop at Eidsvoll 1814 has a very distinctive style with a selection of goods that have been handpicked for the place.

The park surrounding Eidsvoll Manor House and the scenic area along the Andelva river form a highly popular destination for walks and recreation.

Where is Eidsvoll 1814?

Eidsvoll 1814 is located at Eidsvoll Verk, 60 km north of Oslo, 21 km north of Oslo Airport (OSL) and between 60–80 km from Hamar, Gjøvik, Kongsvinger and Hønefoss — perfect for a day trip.

Nearby attractions include Eidsvoll Bygdetun and Feiring Ironworks with Carsten Anker's Summer House, as well as great hiking areas including the viewpoint Mistberget and lovely swimming spots. The paddle steamer Skibladner sails from Gjøvik to Eidsvoll on Tuesdays and Fridays (2026).

Getting here

By car: Take the exit from the E6 at junction 55 (by the Nebbenes cafes) and follow the signs for Eidsvollsbygbningen.

Parking: Free parking is available right outside the museum.

By train: The nearest train station, Eidsvoll Verk station, is within walking distance (15–20 minutes, 1.8 km) from Eidsvoll 1814. From the station, you can also catch connecting buses (see below), which are included in your train ticket. The train ride takes 31 minutes from Oslo Central Station (Oslo S).

By bus: The nearest bus stop is Eidsvoll Verk, located a 3–4 minute walk from Eidsvoll Manor House. The bus takes 3 minutes from Eidsvoll Verk station (route 430), 11 minutes from Eidsvoll station (route 430), and 38 minutes from Jessheim station.

Eidsvoll Manor House:

  • Mobility access: Equipped for visitors with disabilities, featuring a stairlift to the basement level, step-free access to the first floor, and an elevator between the first and second floors (where the Constituent Assembly / Rikssalen is located). Please inform us of any special needs upon arrival, and we will be happy to assist you.

  • Portable seating: Folding chairs are available for those who need to rest during guided tours.

  • Shoe covers: All visitors to Eidsvoll Manor House must wear shoe covers, which are provided at the entrance. Benches are available for this purpose, and our staff will gladly assist if needed.

Wergelands Hus (Exhibition, Café, and Shop):

  • Step-free access: Threshold-free entry and a wheelchair lift between the two levels in the exhibition areas.

  • Visual impairments: The building is fully universally designed (UU) with floor tactile indicators and high-contrast elements suitable for blind and visually impaired visitors.

  • Accessible toilets: HC-accessible restrooms are available.

Parking:

  • Accessible parking: Designated HC parking spaces are available in the main parking lot and directly outside the entrance to Wergelands Hus / Café Standpunkt. From here, there is a gently sloping, accessible gravel path leading to the entrance.

When you purchase a ticket, you select a specific time slot for your guided tour of Eidsvoll Manor House. For other activities and your visit to the Wergeland House democracy center, your ticket is valid for the entire day

What should we do if we miss our scheduled tour?

How much time should I set aside for the visit?

We recommend spending 2 to 3 hours here. A guided tour of Eidsvoll Manor House takes 45 minutes. In addition, we highly recommend exploring the exhibitions in Wergeland House, enjoying a delicious lunch at Café Standpunkt, and taking a pleasant stroll through the park or along the Andelva river.

Can we bring our own food?

Yes, the beautiful park surrounding Eidsvoll Manor House is perfect for picnics, and tables and benches are available for public use. Please note that barbecuing/grilling is not permitted.

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are very welcome in our park and outdoor areas, provided they are kept on a leash. Animals are not allowed inside the museum buildings (with the exception of service dogs).
